Safe Travels / Viajes Seguros en Nyeland Acres
For a second year in a row, Nyeland Promise was awarded a mini-grant from the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Go Human, to continue improving pedestrian and bicycle safety in Nyeland Acres. Nyeland Acres is a disadvantaged community in the unincorporated area of Ventura County. Our community does not have sidewalks or crosswalks and traveling through the community is unsafe. This summer, Nyeland Promise implemented Safe Travels Continuation in Nyeland Acres, a multilingual education and outreach program that aims to promote safe passages, bike safety, and pedestrian traffic for children and residents when walking in and around the streets. Nyeland Promise even hosted a fun summer Bike Rodeo in Nyeland Acres to educate children on bicycle safety. Children that attended the event received educational materials and a helmet. The Ventura Downtown Lions Club donated brand new bikes to children in Nyeland Acres.
